Update v0.2.0 - Post-jam Update

The post-jam update is finally here, with many improvements, some of which were from your feedback for the jam!

Visual updates

There have been many changes and additions made to the visuals of the game, including recolors and added animations and effects.

New scoring system

You can now record your score when playing the game! The score is based on  a number of factors, and is displayed at the end of the game, with your best score displayed on the start menu.

Yes, 1346 is my current best score, can you beat it? :D

More character

The player character has also been updated, with a mouth and new eyes that look where you're aiming. The animations have also been updated, and an idle animation has been added for when the player character is not moving.

The update in detail

For those of you interested in the exact details of the update, here is a changelog-style list of this update! I've tried to list as much as I can, but there's most likely a few things missing...

Changed
  • Recolored the wave progress bar to fit the color palette for the rest of the game.
  • Recolored the grass tiles to fit the color palette for the rest of the game.  (and mentioned it in the credits)
  • Improved the player character's walking animation, and changed it to only play when moving.
  • Doubled the number of ants spawned in each wave, and doubled the strength of the bug spray to match.
  • Increased the speeds of the player character and ants slightly.
  • Increased the size of the grass area slightly. (where the game is played)
  • Decreased the size of the downloaded game slightly.
Added
  • Added text below the wave progress bar to show the number of the current wave.
  • Made the player character's eyes look in the direction of aim.
  • Added a mouth to the player character.
  • Added an idle animation to the player character.
  • Added a animation to the health bar/icons.
  • Made the bug spray spin randomly when thrown.
  • Added a sound and particle effect for when an ant is eliminated.
  • Added camera shake for when the bug spray explodes.
  • Added a simple start menu with a button to start playing, and a button to toggle the music.
  • Implemented a basic scoring system, based on the number the number of ants eliminated and how long you survived.
  • Added a game over screen that shows your score, along with the components that were used to calculate it.
  • Added a simple transition for showing the game over screen, and then returning to the menu.
  • Added a 64 bit Windows version of the game.
  • Added a browser-playable WebGL version of the game.
Fixed
  • Fixed the aiming not being easy to aim directly up of down.
  • Fixed the wave progress bar sometimes going off the edge of the screen.

Future updates

There will most likely not be any more updates after this, aside from bug fixes. I would like to add more stuff, but my time is better spent making more games, rather than updating this game.

I do plan to release the source code for this game at some point though, so you can play around with it yourself.

Anyways, that's all for this update. Have fun playing!
